where biology meets robotic

This diagram clearly illustrates the processes of the planned Hermetia Styria facility.
In the first step, various low-grade by-products are carefully blended into the right formulation and mixed with baby larvae. The filled containers are then placed in a climate-controlled chamber, where optimal conditions are created to ensure the growth of the larvae.
After about a week, the pallets containing the larvae and the remaining feed materials are removed and separated. This process yields insect frass, which we use as a substrate for biogas production, and freshly fattened larvae.
The larvae are then rapidly killed, sanitized, dried, and pressed. This results in high-quality protein meal and larval fat, which are further processed into feed for poultry, pigs, fish, and pets.
